Beverage Dispensing User Interface for Food Service Industry
CHALLENGE
TouchSensor was tasked with designing and manufacturing an extremely durable, touch-sensitive portion control solution with the ability to withstand a combination of user-abuse and constant exposure to carbonated soda in the fast-food restaurant environment.
SOLUTION
Our team employed TS100 field-effect touch technology to build a TouchSensor™ portion control solution, ultimately eliminating field issues related to switch failures.
STORY
The customer's technical team was intrigued by TouchSensor™'s software-free TS100 field-effect touch technology. Capable of being mounted on standard printed circuit board material and adhered behind a plastic panel, the touch technology contained no moving parts, eliminating the possibility of mechanical failures inherent with conventional switches. Once the initial qualification units were complete, the customer performed an extended life test to verify that the new portion control was an improvement on the previous model. Even after 10 million actuations, the life tests resulted in no switch failures. The TouchSensor portion control was launched successfully and continues to exceed customer's expectations by eliminating field issues related to switch failures.
